What to buy your homesick Swedish friend/partner/colleague/sister in law etc this Christmas.
Most of us know what it is like to miss home sometimes. Especially during the festive season, the longing for home and family can be really hard to handle – the choice to stay abroad or far away for Christmas and other high seasons isn’t always an easy one and often made as a compromise.
There are thousands of Nordic people living in the UK and we at ScandiKitchen have made it our mission to make sure everyone can get that little bit of flavours from home when they need it.
Here are our top suggestions for what to buy a Homesick Swede this Christmas:
- Blossa glogg – it’s the biggest mulled wine brand in Sweden. The original is awesome – but if you can get your hands on the 2022 version (arriving with us mid November) that is such a special gift.
- Pepparkakor- ginger biscuits. We just cannot get enough. Any kind, but especially the tins are appreciated.
- Julmust – the Swedish Christmas soft drink. It’s a must.
- Gingerbread dough (keep this chilled) – Guaranteed to make your house smell like all the Christmasses of your childhood. At least if it’s a Nordic one.
- Ansjovis – chilled item – this is essential for making Janssons Temptation on Christmas Eve. And very hard to find in the normal UK shops.
- A box of Paradis or Aladdin Chocolates from Marabou. In Sweden, this is what we have instead of the tin of Quality Street. Please remember you cannot go to the 2nd layer until everything on the top layer has been eaten.
- Juleskum – Christmas Mashmallow. The original is best.
- The annual Marabou Christmas Flavour milk chocolate – this year is apple & cinnamon.
- Prinskorv (chilled) – little mini sausages. A must on the Christmas smorgasbord (along with the meatballs, of course).
- Julvort – the Christmas bread. Sweet loaf, super fragrant with Seville peel. Perfect with your herring/beetroot salad/meatball/ham feast.
