Even though the name and possibly even the bread, comes from Denmark, it has been baked in southern and western Sweden at least since the late Middle Ages.
Kavring is baked, sold and eaten all year round but is especially associated with Christmas. Kavring is usually baked with a mixture of rye flour and wheat flour, Filmjolk, a sour Swedish yoghurt, and dark syrup for a darker colour and sweeter taste. In addition, a number of spices are frequently used, such as cumin, hint of spice is also included – such as anise and bitter orange for an extra hint of flavour.
PLEASE NOTE: This product was frozen before it was shipped. It will defrost during shipping so we recommend using is straight away or re-freezing it. The best before dates on the bag is for the unfrozen version; we may ship bread that is past its best before date.
