J. Hoeg liquorice and sugar factories was founded in 1902. In 1961-62 the J. Hoeg liquorice and sugar factory was bought by Toms group, and quickly got the name Pingvin (Penguin). It is said that the name was inspired by the famous Amager Tang (liquorice with white fillings), or that it was just a sweet bird.
