The iconic Christmas marzipan piggie – this one is by Nidar, the Norwegian Chocolate maker. This little piggie weighs a whopping 200g and comes in plain marzipan, in it’s own little box. Oink.

The Marzipan Pig is popular in Scandinavia and in Norway it is given as a prize to whoever finds the almond in the porridge. Confused? Don’t be… A few hundred years ago, putting an almond in the Christmas Porridge was meant to give hope to unmarried women of finding a husband. If you found the almond in your bowl of porridge, you would get married in the coming year. On the other hand, if you found a bitter almond you could give up hope of a suitor at the door. Today the marzipan pig is given as a prize to whoever finds the almond.
