These marmalade sweets has been a part of Fazer’s Christmas range since the late 1800s when Karl Fazer brought the recipe from St. Petersburg, where he studied. The green balls were first sold in Helsinki in 1929, so they’re a sweet with history. Their royal background makes for some interesting trivia too; Three generations of the British royal family have received these as a gift. The marmalade sweets were first sent to King Edward VII in 1902 to celebrate his coronation. In 1947, they were sent as a wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen. And in order to maintain the tradition, Fazer also sent the marmalade sweets as a wedding present when Kate Middleton and Prince William were married in 2011.
