Just like chocolate, these marmalade balls are a must for Christmas in many Scandinavian homes. The round and soft marmalade balls elicits childhood memories for many families.
The marmalade has been a part of Fazer’s Christmas range since the late 1800s when Karl Fazer brought the recipe from St. Petersburg, where he studied. The green balls were first sold in Helsinki in 1929. The crown on the marmalade box has become a well-known symbol for Fazer’s marmalade.
Three generations of the British royal family has received Fazer’s marmalade as a gift. The marmalade was first sent to King Edward VII in 1902 to celebrate his coronation. In 1947, the marmalade was sent as a wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen. In order to maintain the tradition, Fazer also sent the marmalade sweets as a wedding present when Kate Middleton and Prince William were married in 2011.
This is perfect as a Christmas gift or to share as an after dinner sweet. To shop our full Fazer range, click here.
